Public Performance Rights

Do any of the library's films have public performance rights?

Public performance rights are required if showing a film outside of class for an extracurricular or social event. For more information visit the Copyright and Video Resources website.)

  • Some Kanopy films offer public performance rights. When viewing search results, look for the PPR logo. Additionally, Kanopy provides instructions for limiting searches to films with public performance rights.
  • Films in Academic Videos Online have limited public performance rights. All films* purchased or subscribed to through Alexander Street, whether streaming or DVD, include limited public performance rights, which includes permission for classroom showings, as well as on-campus or in-library public screenings, as long as no admission is being charged.
    *Excluding FILM PLATFORM and National Theatre titles. National Theatre titles can be used in classroom or lecture room for teaching purposes.
  • ICE Videos allow for non-commercial, educational use

You may also search Primo for "public performance rights" and limit to DVD or VHS to see a list of DVDs and VHS tapes with public performance rights.

Some Netflix Original educational documentaries are available for one-time educational screenings

Visit media.netflix.com and search for the title or browse recent releases. 

Titles that are available for educational screening will display the following grant of permission on their details page: GRANT OF PERMISSION FOR EDUCATIONAL SCREENINGS.

A personal Netflix account is required. Murray Library does and can not subscribe to Netflix, and most Netflix content is not licensed for educational use.
