PA Forward, an initiative of the Pennsylvania Library Association, emphasizes libraries’ role in moving Pennsylvania forward by supporting libraries in providing resources, services, and programs related to five key literacies: basic, information, civic and social, health, and financial. Libraries are essential in promoting the quality of life by expanding these types of knowledge which are key to success. Libraries can become a PA Forward Star Library, receiving bronze, silver, and gold stars, by submitting documentation which demonstrates incorporation of the five key literacies into their programming and communication. As a Silver Star library, Murray Library is committed to provide programs and services that meet all five of the PA Forward literacies.
Murray Library looks forward to utilizing available resources from the program to ensure that our events and programs cover a wide range of topics and subjects in service to the whole community. Existing and planned programming at Murray Library will correspond to each of the literacy types. Examples include poetry readings, book clubs, information about obtaining public library cards, and various workshops focused on writing, information literacy, the seed library, and more.
